NAIROBI, Kenya — Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has hailed the election of Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru as the new Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, describing the victory as a historic milestone for the party and a clear expression of the will of the electorate.

In a statement issued after the declaration of results, Gachagua congratulated the newly elected legislator for securing what he termed a decisive mandate from voters.

“Congratulations, Hon. Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru, on your historic election as the Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency. You have won by a resounding margin, reflecting the unmistakable voice of the people,” Gachagua said.

He also thanked supporters for delivering DCP’s first seat in the National Assembly.

“To the great people of Ol Kalou, thank you for giving our party, DCP, its first Member of the National Assembly.”

Thanks Voters for Standing Firm

Gachagua praised Ol Kalou residents for what he described as their determination during the campaign period.

He thanked voters for rejecting inducements and remaining steadfast throughout the electoral process.

“Thank you, my great people, for refusing to sell your birthright and for being wise enough not to fall for the deception of development projects.”

The former Deputy President also commended voters for protecting the integrity of the election and alleged that some police officers had attempted to disrupt the process.

“Thank you a million times for guarding your vote and for standing firm despite the actions of rogue police officers armed with guns and tear gas.”

The allegations were made in his statement. Authorities had not publicly responded to the claims at the time of publication.

‘An Extra Soldier’ in Parliament

Gachagua described the victory as strengthening his political movement, saying the election had added another ally to those he works with in Parliament.

“I have been struggling with 18 soldiers but with great results; now I have 19, things will be much better.”

He further said the outcome had restored the dignity of both the local community and the nation.

“On behalf of our community and the people of Kenya, kindly accept my heartfelt appreciation for restoring the dignity of our community and our nation.”

Campaign Team Recognised

Gachagua also praised the leaders who spearheaded the DCP campaign, including Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, for their leadership during the three-month campaign.

He thanked allied senators, Members of Parliament, Members of County Assembly, volunteers and campaign staff for their contribution to the victory.

The DCP leader announced that he would tour all five wards in Ol Kalou to personally thank residents for their support.

“Tomorrow morning, I will visit all the five wards to personally thank the people of Ol Kalou. I have been so directed by the community.”

He concluded by urging the newly elected MP to serve the constituency diligently.

“Hon. Kamau, please go and serve your people diligently, and represent them well. God bless Ol Kalou, and God bless Kenya.”
