NAIROBI, Kenya — The Ministry of Health has directed the fast-tracking of three major national health surveys as part of efforts to strengthen evidence-based planning and keep the World Bank-funded Building Resilient and Responsive Health Systems (BREHS) Project on schedule.

Principal Secretary for Public Health and Professional Standards Mary Muthoni issued the directive during a debrief meeting with the BREHS Project team, where officials reviewed progress on the implementation of the health systems strengthening programme.

The meeting assessed key milestones and priority interventions under the project, including the procurement of essential health products and technologies through the Kenya Medical Supplies Authority (KEMSA).

According to the ministry, the supplies are expected to be delivered to counties in September, boosting the availability of critical health commodities across the country.

Muthoni directed the project team to accelerate the implementation of three priority surveys—the STEPS Survey, the Mental Health Survey, and the Kenya Household Health Expenditure and Utilization Survey (KHHEUS)—to ensure the timely generation of data needed for evidence-based health planning and policy decisions.

The meeting also emphasised the need to expedite other priority interventions to ensure the BREHS Project remains on track and achieves its broader objective of strengthening Kenya’s health system.

The World Bank delegation participating in the meeting was led by Dr. Elizabeth Wangia.

The BREHS Project is designed to enhance the resilience and responsiveness of Kenya’s health system by improving access to essential health products, strengthening service delivery, and supporting data-driven decision-making.
