NAIROBI, Kenya- The studio of the popular Iko Nini Podcast was broken into, with thieves making away with high-value production equipment.
The podcast, run by media personality Mwafreeka, confirmed the robbery, revealing that the break-in occurred in the early hours of Sunday, April 12.
According to details shared by Mwafreeka, three unidentified men were captured on CCTV entering the premises and systematically going through the studio before taking off with key equipment.
The footage shows the suspects moving with confidence inside the space, appearing familiar with what they were looking for.
Reports indicate that the intruders used tools, including a crowbar and flashlights, to access and navigate the studio.
In a detail that has sparked online speculation, the padlock to the studio was opened without visible damage, raising questions about how the suspects gained entry.
Among the items stolen were two Sony A7 IV cameras, camera lenses, including a Sigma lens, camera stands and accessories
The choice of items has led many to believe the robbery may have been targeted, as other valuables such as computers were reportedly left behind.
Reports indicate that a security guard assigned to the compound was absent at the time of the break-in, having reportedly left to attend to another job.
This gap may have provided the suspects with an opportunity to execute the robbing without interruption.
Additionally, it has emerged that the studio equipment was not insured, meaning the financial loss will be borne directly by the creators.
In response, Mwafreeka has taken to social media to share CCTV clips of the suspects, urging the public to assist in identifying them.
He has also announced a Sh 100,000 reward for any information that could lead to the arrest of those responsible.
Despite the setback, Mwafreeka has indicated that efforts are underway to recover the stolen equipment and resume normal operations.
