Kenya Airways Taps Yemi Alade as Brand Ambassador to Drive West Africa Expansion

Date:

Kenya Airways has named Nigerian Afropop superstar Yemi Alade as its new strategic brand ambassador, marking a major step in the airline’s efforts to strengthen its footprint across West Africa.

The national carrier unveiled the partnership as it ramps up commercial operations in one of Africa’s fastest-growing aviation markets, banking on Alade’s influence to connect with millions of travellers across the continent and beyond.

The collaboration brings together one of Africa’s most recognizable music exports and Kenya’s flag carrier at a time when competition for passengers on regional routes continues to intensify.

Known for global hits including Johnny, Shekere and Tomorrow, Alade has built a fan base that stretches across Africa, Europe, the Americas and the Middle East. Kenya Airways believes that reach makes her an ideal face for the airline’s next phase of regional growth.

Announcing the partnership, the airline described the singer as a strategic ambassador who embodies African excellence and international appeal, qualities it hopes will resonate with customers across key markets.

The appointment also aligns with Kenya Airways’ broader commercial strategy of using culture, entertainment and influential personalities to deepen customer engagement while showcasing Africa to the world.

“Our partnership with Yemi Alade reflects our commitment to celebrating African excellence while connecting people, cultures and opportunities across the continent,” the airline said during the announcement.

The ambassadorial deal comes as Kenya Airways expands its presence in West Africa, particularly in Nigeria, one of the continent’s largest aviation and business markets.

The airline has increased capacity on its Nairobi-Lagos route by deploying a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and operating the service six times a week.

The expanded schedule is expected to improve connectivity between East and West Africa, offering travellers more flexibility while supporting trade, tourism and business travel.

According to Kenya Airways Chief Commercial and Customer Officer Julius Thairu, the partnership with Alade is designed to strengthen the airline’s visibility in highly competitive West African aviation hubs while appealing to younger audiences.

“We are delighted to welcome Yemi Alade to the Kenya Airways family. Her authenticity, global appeal and deep connection with African audiences make her the perfect partner as we continue expanding our footprint across West Africa,” Thairu said.

He added that the collaboration goes beyond celebrity endorsement, positioning the airline as a brand that celebrates African creativity while making travel across the continent more accessible and inspiring.

Beyond her music career, the award-winning singer has become one of Africa’s most recognizable cultural ambassadors, performing on international stages and championing African fashion, language and identity.

Her multilingual appeal and loyal fan community give Kenya Airways an opportunity to engage younger travellers who increasingly value brands that reflect culture and lifestyle alongside service.
