NAIROBI, Kenya — The Ministry of Health has assured the public that the country remains prepared to respond to Ebola and other emerging public health threats amid ongoing discussions with the United States and other international partners on global health security collaboration.
In a press statement issued on May 27, the Ministry of Health said Kenya continues to strengthen disease surveillance, emergency response systems, and laboratory preparedness following concerns over the ongoing Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) outbreak in the region.
Government Highlights Preparedness Measures
The ministry said Kenya has activated its National Incident Management System and intensified surveillance at points of entry across the country.
Authorities added that designated laboratories have been prepared for testing, while coordination between national and county governments has also been strengthened.
According to the statement signed by Health Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale, more than 55,000 travellers have so far been screened through various ports of entry.
The ministry further confirmed that 10 suspected cases had been tested and all returned negative results.
Kenya Defends Global Health Partnerships
The government said ongoing international engagements are aimed at strengthening preparedness and response mechanisms against Ebola and other emerging diseases.
“Kenya welcomes partnerships that strengthen global health security and reaffirm our shared commitment to protecting lives through coordinated, science-based action,” the statement read.
The ministry also emphasised that any international health cooperation arrangements would remain subject to Kenya’s laws, public health regulations, and biosecurity standards.
Focus on Regional Health Security
The statement noted that Kenya has played a key role in regional disease response efforts, including support during the West Africa Ebola outbreak between 2014 and 2016.
Officials said investments in surveillance systems, workforce development, emergency preparedness, and laboratory infrastructure have strengthened the country’s ability to respond to health emergencies.
Public Assurance Amid Speculation
The government’s statement comes amid growing public discussion online regarding possible international health cooperation arrangements involving Kenya.
Health authorities sought to reassure citizens that the protection of Kenyans, frontline health workers, and communities remains the government’s top priority.
“Kenya is ready. Kenya is capable. Kenya will continue to act responsibly in safeguarding both national and global health security,” the ministry stated.
The government said it will continue issuing regular updates as preparedness and surveillance efforts continue.
