Kenya Red Cross Clarifies Voi-Taveta Incident Is Bush Fire

TAITA TAVETA, Kenya- The Kenya Red Cross has clarified that the fire reported along the Voi-Taveta Road in Taita Taveta County is a bush fire.

Earlier reports had described the incident as a fuel tanker fire. However, teams responding at the scene have since confirmed that the blaze involves vegetation.

“Ground teams have since confirmed it is a bush fire,” the Kenya Red Cross said in an update.

Kenya Red Cross responders, Kenya Wildlife Service personnel and the Taita Taveta County fire brigade remain at the scene working to contain the blaze.

Emergency teams are also working to keep residents living near the affected area safe as firefighting efforts continue.

The cause of the bush fire and the extent of the affected area have not yet been established.
