NAIROBI, Kenya – The Ministry of Health has outlined key priorities for the next Global Fund grant cycle as Kenya seeks to strengthen its response to HIV, tuberculosis (TB) and malaria while advancing Universal Health Coverage through Taifa Care.
Principal Secretary for Medical Services Dr. Ouma Oluga met a Global Fund delegation led by Senior Portfolio Manager Paul MacCarrick to review progress made under Grant Cycle 7 and discuss preparations for Kenya’s Grant Cycle 8 Funding Request.
During the meeting, Dr. Oluga reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to ensuring that investments supported by the Global Fund deliver measurable health outcomes, strengthen national health systems and improve access to quality healthcare for all Kenyans.
He said the Government remains focused on maximising the impact of Global Fund resources while aligning them with Kenya’s broader health sector reforms under Taifa Care.
According to the Principal Secretary, Grant Cycle 8 will prioritise strengthening the Social Health Authority, accelerating the adoption of digital health technologies and enhancing the security of essential health commodities.
The funding cycle will also focus on building resilient health systems, leveraging artificial intelligence to improve healthcare delivery, promoting local manufacturing of health products and strengthening adaptive leadership to sustain Kenya’s response to HIV, TB and malaria.
The Government said the priorities are intended to improve the efficiency, resilience and sustainability of Kenya’s health system while ensuring continued progress in combating the country’s three major infectious diseases.
