NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Power has announced scheduled electricity interruptions across six counties on Tuesday, May 6, to facilitate routine system maintenance.
The planned power outages will affect select areas in Nairobi, Nakuru, Mombasa, Kilifi, Kwale, and Homa Bay, with interruptions expected between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., depending on the region.
Nairobi
Power cuts in Nairobi will occur from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in areas including:
- University of Nairobi, Kaumoni, Loresho Primary and Secondary, and Shamba Café.
- Nairobi West areas such as Paa Crescent, ICC Church, Nyayo Stadium, Nairobi West Shopping Centre, Muhoho Avenue, Ghandhi Avenue, Nairobi West Hospital, and surrounding neighborhoods.
- Langata Road and surrounding areas including Galleria Mall, CUEA, Muiri Lane, Magadi Road, and adjacent roads.
Nakuru
From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., the following Nakuru areas will be affected: Nkoilale Market, Sekenani Market, Talek Market, and surrounding hotels and residences.
In the Mt. Kenya region, areas like Maria Njoki, Karogo Primary, Karurumo Catholic, and nearby schools will experience outages from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Mombasa
Power disruptions are set for 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. in areas including Pentagon, Shika Adabu, Kibaki East, Bububu, Kona Mpya, Slaughterhouse, Mwanaguvuze, and nearby neighborhoods.
Kilifi
Areas in Kilifi, such as Pwani Oil Ltd, Vipingo Industries, Baharini Primary, Swafaa Academy, and several industrial parks will face outages from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kwale
In Kwale, areas including Mabokoni, Mbuwani, Mwanjamba, and the Technical University of Mombasa will experience shorter outages between 9:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m.
Homa Bay
From 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., power will be interrupted in Koduogo Market, Mbita, Rusinga, Waondo, Luanda, and adjacent markets.
North Rift
Chebarbar and nearby areas are also scheduled to experience power cuts from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Kenya Power has advised customers to make necessary arrangements during the outage hours and expressed regret over any inconvenience caused.
The utility reiterated that scheduled maintenance is crucial for improving the reliability and safety of the electricity supply.
