NAIROBI, Kenya — People’s Liberation Party (PLP) leader Martha Karua has congratulated the people of Ol Kalou following the parliamentary by-election, saying the electorate not only elected a new Member of Parliament but also demonstrated the importance of safeguarding the integrity of the vote.

In a statement posted on X after the declaration of results, Karua said the people of Ol Kalou had exercised their constitutional sovereignty in more than one way.

“Today the people of Ol Kalou have exercised their sovereignty in more than one way – by choosing their Member of Parliament, and by exercising their right to safeguard their votes from interference.”

She commended voters for what she described as setting an example for the rest of the country on protecting the electoral process.

“Congratulations for showing the way and demonstrating to the country that it can be done. That a people united shall never be defeated.”

Congratulates MP-Elect and DCP Leadership

Karua also congratulated Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who was elected Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou, as well as the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leadership and campaign team.

She specifically acknowledged DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua, Nyandarua Senator John Methu, Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia, and party members for their efforts during the campaign.

“Congratulations to you, to your MP-elect Sammy Kamau Ngotho, and to DCP party leader Rigathi Gachagua, Senator John Methu, Hon. Wanjiku Muhia and the entire DCP leadership and members who tirelessly worked to make it happen.”

Ol Kalou Poll Draws National Political Attention

The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election has attracted reactions from political leaders across the country, with many viewing the outcome as a significant political development ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.

Sammy Kamau Ngotho, who contested on the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) ticket, won the seat in a contest that had become a closely watched test of political influence in the Mt. Kenya region.

Karua’s remarks add to a growing list of reactions from leaders across the political divide following the declaration of the results.
