NAIROBI, Kenya — Kiharu Member of Parliament Ndindi Nyoro has congratulated Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho on his election as the new Member of Parliament for Ol Kalou Constituency, while raising concerns over what he described as violence during the by-election.
In a statement shared on X, Nyoro praised the MP-elect for his decisive victory and also commended Nyandarua Senator John Methu and Kipipiri MP Wanjiku Muhia for leading the campaign.
“Congratulations Sammy Douglas Kamau Ngotho on your decisive election as the MP for Ol Kalou. Congratulations to Senator John Methu and Hon. Wanjiku Muhia for leading the team and candidate to victory,” Nyoro said.
Calls for Accountability Over Election Violence
Nyoro alleged that the by-election process was affected by violence, which he attributed to state actors, and called for accountability ahead of the 2027 General Election.
“However, it is apparent to all Kenyans that the process was marred with unprecedented state-sponsored violence that must be condemned as we head to next year’s general elections.”
He further argued that it is the responsibility of the government to protect citizens during elections.
“It is the sole responsibility of the Government to protect citizens, and the pattern of lethargy and active condoning of violence was blatant.”
These allegations reflect Nyoro’s views. Authorities had not publicly responded to the specific claims at the time of publication.
Calls for Neutrality by State Institutions
The Kiharu MP urged the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) and security agencies to remain impartial and execute their constitutional mandates without political bias.
“Our state institutions especially the IEBC and all security organs must strive to steer clear of political alignments and serve all Kenyans fairly with dignity and decorum.”
Nyoro concluded by congratulating the people of Ol Kalou for participating in the electoral process and wished the MP-elect success in his new role.
“Congratulations the great people of Ol Kalou. We wish Hon. Sammy Ngotho the best as he serves in the new capacity as Member of the National Assembly.”
The Ol Kalou parliamentary by-election has attracted widespread political commentary, with leaders from across the political spectrum offering differing interpretations of its significance ahead of Kenya’s 2027 General Election.
