NAIROBI, Kenya – In a statement, Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has condemned the violent treatment of a person with disability during recent protests in Nakuru.
The incident, captured on video, shows the individual being forcibly arrested while participating in a peaceful demonstration.
As a person living with a disability himself, Wanyonyi expressed his deep distress over the incident, emphasizing that peaceful protest is a fundamental right enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.
He further decried the excessive use of force by police officers, calling it a gross violation of the individual’s dignity and rights.
“No Kenyan, especially those living with disabilities, should ever be subjected to such inhumane treatment,” said Wanyonyi. “The police have a duty to protect all citizens, not to harm or humiliate them.”
Wanyonyi urged authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly, holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
He also called for greater protection of vulnerable groups, particularly people with disabilities, in society.
