MP Tim Wanyonyi Condemns Brutal Harassment of Person with Disability in Nakuru: “PWDs Matter”

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – In a statement, Member of Parliament Tim Wanyonyi has condemned the violent treatment of a person with disability during recent protests in Nakuru.

The incident, captured on video, shows the individual being forcibly arrested while participating in a peaceful demonstration.

As a person living with a disability himself, Wanyonyi expressed his deep distress over the incident, emphasizing that peaceful protest is a fundamental right enshrined in the Kenyan Constitution.

He further decried the excessive use of force by police officers, calling it a gross violation of the individual’s dignity and rights.

“No Kenyan, especially those living with disabilities, should ever be subjected to such inhumane treatment,” said Wanyonyi. “The police have a duty to protect all citizens, not to harm or humiliate them.”

Wanyonyi urged authorities to investigate the incident thoroughly, holding those responsible accountable for their actions.

He also called for greater protection of vulnerable groups, particularly people with disabilities, in society.

The MP’s remarks have sparked a broader conversation about the treatment of persons with disabilities in Kenya, particularly during public demonstrations.

The incident has highlighted ongoing concerns over police conduct and the need for stronger safeguards to ensure that the rights of all Kenyans are respected.

Wanyonyi’s statement reinforces his long-standing advocacy for the rights of people with disabilities and his commitment to pushing for policies that promote inclusion, dignity, and respect for all members of society.
