NAIROBI, Kenya – The Social Health Authority (SHA) has dismissed reports that whistleblower Andrew Kipkurui Rotich was fired, clarifying that he remains employed as a senior officer under transitional arrangements.
SHA Board Chairperson Abdi Mohamed said Rotich’s tenure is intact and his position is safeguarded.
“Mr. Rotich has not lost his job. He remains an employee of the public service deployed to SHA as a Senior Officer,” Mohamed stated.
He explained that although Rotich was previously shortlisted for a Deputy Director post, a court ruling in May 2025 nullified that recruitment. In the fresh round of applications, Rotich did not apply for the Deputy Director slot but only for Assistant Director, Internal Audit.
The clarification followed concerns by the Institute of Certified Public Accountants of Kenya (ICPAK), which urged SHA and the Ministry of Health to ensure fairness and protect whistleblowers.
ICPAK chairperson Elizabeth Kalunda emphasized: “Professionals serving the public interest must be protected from vulnerability. We demand the safety of CPA Rotich, his family, and other accountability contributors.”
Kalunda added that ICPAK would escalate the matter to the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC), pressing for guarantees of both job security and personal safety for Rotich.
The dispute highlights ongoing tensions over SHA’s recruitment processes, with civil society and professional bodies calling for greater transparency and whistleblower protection in public institutions.
