Uber’s New Kenya Feature Lets Drivers See Your Destination Before Pickup

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya – Uber has unveiled a major update to its platform in Kenya that will allow drivers to see trip destinations and fares upfront before accepting ride requests — a move aimed at reducing delays, cancellations and awkward phone calls.

In a message to riders on Thursday, the company said the update will make rides faster, smoother, and more comfortable by removing the need for drivers to call customers for trip details.

“Ever requested a ride only for your phone to ring moments later with the questions, ‘Unaenda wapi?’ or ‘Imeleta ngapi?’ We heard you — and those days are officially over,” Uber said.

The ride-hailing giant noted that drivers can now view both the destination and estimated fare before confirming a request, helping them make quicker decisions and plan their routes efficiently.

“This ensures drivers have the information they need upfront, leading to faster pickups and fewer cancellations,” the company said, adding that the change is designed to create “true peace of mind” for riders.

With the update, riders will no longer need to explain trip details or costs over the phone — an issue that has long frustrated users in Nairobi and other Kenyan cities.

“The moment you request, you can relax. No more unnecessary conversations or trip cancellations after a call. Your quiet time is yours again,” Uber added.

The new system, Uber said, benefits both drivers and passengers by improving coordination, reducing idle time, and ensuring smoother trips.

It also reflects the company’s efforts to localize its services while maintaining its global standards.

To promote the update, Uber is offering a 50 percent discount on two rides for Nairobi users who enter the promo code CHILLNRIDE before October 31, 2025. The offer applies to the first 2,000 users, with a maximum discount of Sh300 per ride.

“Just request your ride, watch your driver arrive, and enjoy the journey,” the company said.

The rollout addresses one of the most persistent complaints among Kenyan riders — driver calls about destinations and payments — marking a notable step in Uber’s bid to refine the local commuting experience.
