NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Police Service has intensified security operations and traffic enforcement ahead of the Easter holidays, citing increased travel, school closures, and ongoing rains as potential risk factors.
In a statement issued Tuesday, police spokesperson Muchiri Nyaga said additional personnel and resources had been deployed to maintain law and order during the holiday period.
The service said it is working with other government agencies to enforce road safety compliance nationwide, urging motorists, pedestrians, and public service vehicle operators to exercise caution.
Authorities called for strict adherence to traffic rules, including observing speed limits, using designated crossing points, wearing protective gear such as helmets and reflective clothing, and avoiding risky behaviour such as drunk driving, distracted road use, and overloading.
Police also warned against operating unroadworthy vehicles, advising motorists to conduct routine maintenance to minimise mechanical failures that could lead to accidents.
In addition to road safety enforcement, the service announced increased patrols and surveillance in public spaces, including shopping malls, places of worship, markets, entertainment venues, transport termini, and critical infrastructure.
The move aims to enhance visibility and deter crime as travellers move across the country for the holidays.
Police urged members of the public to remain vigilant and report suspicious activity through emergency numbers 999 or 911, or via anonymous reporting channels.
The service reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property during the holiday period, noting that cooperation between security agencies and the public will be critical in ensuring a safe Easter season.
