NAIROBI, Kenya — Police have arrested two suspects and recovered hundreds of mobile phones and electronic items believed stolen during an intelligence-led operation in Kawangware and Riruta, Nairobi County.
The raid, documented at Muthangari Police Station under OB No. 3/06/04/2026 at 0043 hours Sunday, April 6, began with the arrest of Teddy Anyanga, 20, in Kawangware’s “46 area” for mobile phone theft.
Intelligence Trail
Anyanga led officers to Sam West in Riruta, where he allegedly sold the stolen device. A second suspect, Juma Knoly Omollo, approximately 23, was arrested at the location.
A search of Omollo’s residence yielded substantial electronic evidence: eight laptops, four iPads, and 227 mobile phones of various makes.
Recovery Inventory
The recovered phones comprised 149 iPhones, 39 Samsung devices, 13 Redmi units, and smaller quantities of Oppo, Vivo, Techno, Nokia, Infinix, Itel, Google, Ultra 2, HMD, Nothing, Honor, and Huawei models.
Officers also seized 16 dismantled phones—suggesting spare parts trafficking—14 phone covers, a 55-inch TCL television, a 6kg gas cylinder, and an LG wireless soundbar.
Trafficking Indicators
The volume and variety of devices indicate systematic receipt and redistribution of stolen property rather than opportunistic theft. The presence of dismantled phones suggests an operation processing devices for component resale or refurbishment.
The iPhone predominance (65pc of recovered handsets) points to targeting of high-value devices, likely through street theft, robbery, or burglary.
Prosecution Path
Both suspects remain in custody pending arraignment. The case will test Nairobi County’s capacity to dismantle electronic device trafficking networks that feed parallel markets across the city.
