NAIROBI, Kenya — The government has intensified its charm offensive in Nyandarua County after Cabinet Secretaries Rebecca Miano and Julius Ogamba unveiled a series of major development projects for Nyandarua High School, promising residents more investment in education and infrastructure.
The projects were announced during the school’s Education Day ceremony attended by parents, teachers, students and local leaders, in what residents described as a significant show of government commitment to the region.
Tourism and Wildlife CS Rebecca Miano and Education CS Julius Ogamba jointly pledged multi-million shilling interventions aimed at transforming the school into a modern learning institution while improving access and student welfare.
Among the projects unveiled are the construction of a new administration block, a girls’ ablution facility, a perimeter fence and the tarmacking of the 800-metre access road leading to the school.
The government also committed to supplying 100 computers to enhance digital learning and prepare students for the modern economy.
In a further boost, the leaders announced plans to partner with the school’s alumni association to acquire a Scania school bus to ease transport challenges facing students and the institution.
CS Miano additionally pledged to spearhead the construction of a bus shed requested by residents and school stakeholders.
Speaking during the colourful event, Miano said the Kenya Kwanza administration was determined to ensure schools in Nyandarua compete favourably with top-performing institutions across the country.
“We are investing in education because it is the greatest equaliser in society. The projects we have announced today will improve the learning environment for our children and uplift this community,” Miano said.
She added that the government had listened to concerns raised by the school and local residents and was responding through practical development initiatives.
“Nyandarua deserves quality infrastructure and opportunities for its young people,” she stated.
In remarks likely to carry political significance ahead of the 2027 General Election, Miano urged residents to continue supporting the government, promising more development projects in the future.
“Support the government and work closely with us because development comes where there is partnership and cooperation. More goodies are coming to Nyandarua,” she told residents amid applause.
Education CS Julius Ogamba said the provision of computers forms part of the government’s broader digital literacy agenda targeting schools across the country.
“The provision of 100 computers to Nyandarua High School is part of the government’s broader agenda of expanding access to digital literacy and preparing learners for the modern economy,” Ogamba said.
He noted that improved infrastructure, including the administration block and sanitation facilities, would create a more conducive learning environment.
“Our priority is to ensure learners study in dignity and comfort. Education infrastructure remains central to improving academic performance,” he said.
Ogamba also called on residents to support government programmes, arguing that cooperation between wananchi and the national government would attract additional investments to the county.
Residents and education stakeholders welcomed the announcements, saying the projects would significantly improve the school and surrounding community.
The planned tarmacking of the access road is expected to ease transport challenges during rainy seasons, while the perimeter fence will improve security for students and school property.
