NAIROBI, Kenya- Saboti MP Caleb Amisi has opposed a possible presidential bid by Siaya Governor James Orengo, saying he should instead serve as an adviser to a new generation of political leaders.
Amisi said Orengo was not part of the formation of Kenya Moja, a political movement he said was established at his home in Kitale before Linda Mwananchi figure Edwin Sifuna was endorsed to lead its cause.
He was speaking during a live interview on Citizen TV.
“Orengo shouldn’t run. Orengo was not even part of Kenya Moja. I formed Kenya Moja in my house in Kitale; it is in the public domain,” Amisi said.
He said Sifuna was endorsed in Lukome village as part of what he described as a generational call to leadership.
“Orengo needs to be our adviser; I give him his flowers. He has fought his battles. We have to respect him as a nation,” he added.
Amisi also criticised the performance of Parliament, admitting that he and his fellow lawmakers had failed Kenyans by allowing young people to take to the streets to perform an oversight role constitutionally assigned to MPs.
“Kenyan MPs have failed terribly, I included. We failed because we let young people die on the streets doing what Parliament is supposed to do,” he said.
According to Amisi, the People’s Renaissance Movement was established to ensure the election of a new Parliament in 2027 capable of holding the presidency accountable.
He said he had prepared an impeachment motion against President William Ruto but lacked enough MPs willing to support it.
“I have an impeachment motion against Ruto, but nobody to sign,” he said.
Amisi called on President Ruto to resign, arguing that the country’s challenges were ultimately the responsibility of the presidency.
“I’d tell the president to resign immediately; the country is crying. The buck stops at the presidency,” he said.
The MP further argued that Ruto had enough time to demonstrate his leadership ideas while serving in previous governments, including his 10 years as deputy president under former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
Amisi said he remained an ODM-elected MP but would resign from the party at the appropriate time and formally join the People’s Renaissance Movement.
“I am still an ODM-elected MP, but at the right time I will do the needful and fully transform to People’s Renaissance by resigning from ODM,” he said.
He also maintained that he had not abandoned Linda Mwananchi, saying he was among its founders and had received former ODM leader Raila Odinga’s permission to form Kenya Moja.
On whether his movement could support Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka or former Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i in the 2027 presidential election, Amisi said the decision would require extensive consultations.
He said the push for political renewal was not strictly based on age but on finding a leader capable of delivering a new beginning for Kenya.
