Sifuna Says He Lives Modestly, Takes Pride in House Built in 2015

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya-Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna has defended his modest lifestyle, saying he takes pride in the home he built in 2015 and does not subscribe to a culture of flashy displays of wealth.

Speaking during a televised interview, Sifuna said some leaders choose to live simply despite holding influential positions, arguing that public service should not be measured by personal extravagance.

“I am very proud of my house; I built it in 2015. Some of us are built differently. We are not attracted to flashy things or grandiosity. It is possible to live modestly,” Sifuna said.

The Linda Mwananchi principal said leaders can maintain ordinary lifestyles while serving in public office, adding that material displays should not define political success.

Sifuna also cited former Prime Minister Raila Odinga’s residences as examples of modest living among senior politicians.

“Even Raila’s homes, both in Opoda and Karen, are modest,” he said.

He added that he occasionally visits Odinga’s homes, including when spending time with his daughter.

“I go there a few times with my daughter,” Sifuna said.

The Nairobi Senator’s remarks come amid ongoing political debate over the lifestyles of Kenyan leaders, public spending and the use of public resources.

Sifuna has recently been campaigning on issues including government spending, accountability and the cost of living, as Linda Mwananchi seeks to build support ahead of the 2027 General Election.

He has repeatedly called for leaders to focus on policies that improve the lives of citizens rather than personal wealth and status.
