MOMBASA, Kenya — Renowned journalist, criminologist, and public affairs strategist Elkana Jacob has once again demonstrated his compassion and commitment to community welfare after successfully intervening to help Swaleh Mohamed Said, an instructor at Unik Driving School, regain his job following a viral video incident that caused public uproar.
The video, which captured a brief misunderstanding during a road test session, quickly circulated on social media, sparking heated debate and public concern.
In a gesture of empathy and reconciliation, Elkana personally reached out to both parties, mediating a peaceful resolution that saw Swaleh reinstated to his position.
Elkana expressed heartfelt gratitude to Zulfikar Ahmed for his compassion and understanding in resolving the matter.
“I encouraged Mzee Said to remain faithful and committed to his work, for indeed, no human being is perfect especially during these challenging times we are going through,” Elkana said.
He added that the incident serves as a reminder of the need for forgiveness and second chances in society.
“This is a true reflection of the spirit of humanity, forgiveness, understanding, and compassion. None of us are perfect in this journey of life. My brother Zul, Jazakallah for your kindness, compassion, and unwavering support,” he noted.
A Heart for the People
Beyond this act of reconciliation, Elkana Jacob has continued to touch lives across the Coast region through various humanitarian and community-driven initiatives.
Under his “Team Elkana Mashinani” banner, he has supported youth empowerment programs, education sponsorships, and social interventions aimed at uplifting vulnerable families.
Just two months ago, Elkana came to the aid of a family in Ziwa La Ward, Nyali Sub-County, by clearing a KSh 18,500 mortuary bill to facilitate the burial of their one-month-old infant whose body had been held at Coast General Teaching and Referral Hospital.
The gesture drew admiration from residents, who described him as a leader with a rare sense of empathy and action.
