NAIROBI, Kenya- Presidential candidate and Jubilee Party Deputy Leader Fred Matiang’i on Monday held talks with Acting United States Ambassador to Kenya Susan Burns, with the discussions focusing on Kenya’s development and the aspirations of its people.
In a statement after the meeting, the former Interior Cabinet Secretary described the engagement as an opportunity to exchange views on issues affecting the country and thanked the senior American diplomat for her insights.
“This afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting Ms Susan Burns, Acting U.S. Ambassador to Kenya. We held discussions on a wide range of issues concerning Kenya’s development and the aspirations of our people. I appreciate her valuable insights and the opportunity to exchange perspectives,” Matiang’i said.
The meeting adds to a string of high-profile diplomatic engagements involving Matiang’i in recent weeks as political activity gathers pace ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Earlier this month, he hosted Israeli Ambassador to Kenya Gideon Behar and separately met former United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs Dr Jendayi Frazer for discussions on Kenya’s governance, development and regional affairs.
Burns has also stepped up engagements with Kenya’s political leadership since assuming office as Chargé d’Affaires.
Earlier this month, she paid a courtesy call on former President and Jubilee Party leader Uhuru Kenyatta at his Ichaweri home, following previous meetings with KANU Chairman Gideon Moi and other political leaders from across the divide.
The latest meeting comes as Matiang’i continues to position himself as a key opposition figure under the Jubilee Party and the broader opposition coalition, with political consultations intensifying ahead of the 2027 elections.
