NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has revealed details of a meeting with Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya ahead of a planned tour of the Western Kenya region by leaders allied to the United Alternative Government.
In a statement issued on Thursday, Gachagua said he held what he described as a fruitful breakfast meeting with Natembeya in Nairobi, where the two discussed preparations for the opposition coalition’s regional tour scheduled to begin on Friday, June 12.
According to Gachagua, the discussions focused on the forthcoming engagement in Western Kenya and efforts by opposition leaders to build support ahead of the 2027 General Election.
The former Deputy President said Natembeya briefed him on what he termed the commitment of residents of Western Kenya to join other Kenyans in seeking political change through the opposition movement.
Gachagua further disclosed that the two leaders discussed the need for the opposition to rally behind a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the August 10, 2027 election.
He said he updated the Trans Nzoia governor on his ongoing 45-day stakeholder engagement initiative at his Wamunyoro residence, which he said is aimed at consulting supporters on the process of identifying a joint opposition presidential candidate.
According to Gachagua, the consultations are guided by the philosophy of the Democratic Citizens Party (DCP), which emphasizes public participation and listening to citizens before making key political decisions.
