NAIROBI, Kenya- DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua has hosted thousands of his neighbours for a thanksgiving meal as his 45-day political consultations at his Wamunyoro residence enter their final phase.
Gachagua said the gathering was held on Thursday, August 20, ahead of the conclusion of the consultations on Monday, August 24.
The former Deputy President said he used the occasion to brief his neighbours on discussions he had held with political leaders, opinion shapers and other groups during the 45-day exercise.
The consultations were launched in June after Gachagua announced that he would retreat to Wamunyoro for an intensive engagement with supporters, opinion leaders and stakeholders on Kenya’s political future.
He said one of the key objectives was to explore a formula for identifying a single presidential candidate to challenge President William Ruto in the 2027 election.
Since then, Wamunyoro has hosted delegations of grassroots leaders and other groups as Gachagua has sought views on political strategy, leadership and the broader opposition’s plans ahead of the 2027 elections.
Gachagua described the consultations as part of a broader effort to determine what he calls a “liberation” strategy for Kenya.
He said his neighbours also provided what he described as incisive views on the country’s political direction.
The DCP leader used the thanksgiving gathering to acknowledge the role played by residents in hosting the numerous visitors who have travelled to Wamunyoro during the consultations.
He thanked them for allowing visitors to use their compounds as parking areas, helping keep the neighbourhood clean and assisting Reverend Dorcas with meal preparations.
He also praised residents who helped visitors find their way to Wamunyoro and young men who provided security around his compound throughout the consultations.
Gachagua said he remained grateful for the support and loyalty of his neighbours.
The Wamunyoro meetings have emerged as an important part of Gachagua’s efforts to reorganise his political base and build a broader opposition strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.
Earlier, Gachagua said the consultations would help establish a framework for a united opposition presidential candidate, amid efforts by several opposition leaders to negotiate political alliances.
The conclusion of the 45-day exercise is expected to provide a clearer picture of the political direction Gachagua and his DCP intend to pursue as the country moves closer to the 2027 elections.
