BUNGOMA, Kenya-Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has intensified efforts to rally support in Western Kenya, thanking residents of Nasianda in Bumula Constituency for turning out in large numbers during the opposition’s ongoing regional tour aimed at building momentum ahead of the 2027 General Election.
In a message shared after addressing supporters in Bungoma County, Gachagua said the opposition coalition would continue engaging wananchi and promoting what he described as a people-centered development agenda.
“We shall never tire in our efforts to give wananchi hope and to share our alternative development approach, one that is people-centered, for the people, and grounded in selflessness and humility,” Gachagua said.
He expressed gratitude to residents who waited late into the night to attend the meeting, assuring them that the opposition would remain committed to its promises.
“Rest assured, we will never let you down; we will walk together in every step of this journey,” he added.
The Bungoma rally forms part of a wider three-day Western Kenya tour bringing together key opposition figures, including Kalonzo Musyoka, Eugene Wamalwa, Fred Matiang’i and George Natembeya.
The leaders have been traversing counties across the Western region in a bid to strengthen grassroots support and expand their political influence ahead of the next election.
The coalition’s itinerary has included stops in Vihiga, Kakamega, Busia, Bungoma and Trans Nzoia counties, where leaders have been holding rallies and engaging residents on governance, the economy and political reforms.
The opposition has increasingly projected itself as a united alternative to President William Ruto, with leaders signalling that discussions are ongoing to eventually settle on a single presidential candidate to challenge the incumbent in 2027.
Political analysts view the Western Kenya tour as part of a broader strategy to consolidate support across different regions before formal coalition agreements are concluded.
Western Kenya has emerged as a key battleground in the race for State House, prompting both the opposition and President Ruto’s allies to intensify campaigns in the region.
Over the weekend, the opposition’s rallies coincided with the President’s engagements in the region, underscoring the growing competition for the influential voting bloc.
As coalition talks continue, opposition leaders have maintained that unity will be critical in mounting a formidable challenge against Ruto’s re-election bid, with more regional tours expected in the coming months.
