Siaya Governor James Orengo Protests Withdrawal of Official Security Detail

Date:

SIAYA, Kenya — Siaya Governor James Orengo has protested what he described as the unwarranted and unexplained withdrawal of his official security detail, raising concerns over his safety and the conduct of security agencies.

In a press release and formal letter addressed to Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja, Orengo questioned the circumstances under which officers attached to his security team were withdrawn without prior communication or official explanation.

The veteran politician and former Senate Minority Leader termed the move irregular and demanded immediate clarification from the National Police Service.

“I categorically demand an immediate, formal explanation from the Ministry of Interior and National Administration and the Inspector General of Police regarding the basis of this decision,” the Siaya Governor said.

According to Orengo, the withdrawal of his security detail not only affects his personal safety but also interferes with the execution of his constitutional duties as the Governor of Siaya County.

“However, we continue to do work with enthusiasm and patriotism,” he said.

Security detail for the Linda Mwananchi principal, Nairobi’s home, was also withdrawn.

He argued that as a public official holding a sensitive office, his security arrangements should not be altered arbitrarily or used in a manner that could be perceived as intimidation or political punishment.

The governor further indicated that the withdrawal had caused concern among his supporters and members of the county administration, especially amid heightened political tensions in the country.

Orengo called on the Inspector General to urgently address the matter and restore the security officers attached to him, insisting that public officers deserve equal protection under the law regardless of political differences.
