NAIROBI, Kenya-The Kenya Meteorological Department has forecast continued rainfall in several regions of the country this week, even as high daytime temperatures persist in others.
According to the latest outlook, rains are expected in parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the South Rift Valley, the South Eastern lowlands, the Coast, and Northeastern Kenya.
The department warned that isolated heavy rainfall events could occur in some of these areas, raising the risk of localised flooding and travel disruptions.
Mixed weather conditions
While rainfall is expected in multiple regions, other parts of the country will continue to experience high daytime temperatures, especially in the Coast, Southeastern lowlands, Northeastern and Northwestern Kenya, where temperatures are likely to exceed 30°C.
In contrast, cool nights are forecast in parts of the Central Highlands, Central Rift Valley, and areas near Mount Kilimanjaro, with temperatures expected to drop below 10°C.
The weather agency noted that conditions will vary significantly from one county to another, urging residents to check specific county forecasts for more accurate and localised information.
Advisory to the public
Kenyans in rainfall-prone areas have been advised to remain alert, particularly in regions susceptible to flooding, while those in hotter zones are encouraged to stay hydrated and limit prolonged exposure to the sun.
Farmers are also expected to benefit from the ongoing rains, though the possibility of heavy downpours may affect crop conditions in some areas.
The forecast reflects Kenya’s typical seasonal variability, with different regions experiencing contrasting weather patterns at the same time.
Residents are encouraged to follow updates from the Kenya Meteorological Department and plan accordingly as the week progresses.
