NAIROBI, Kenya– Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said the Kenya Kwanza administration is prepared to appoint former Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Peter Munya, former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi and former Embu Senator Lenny Kivuti to Cabinet positions if they choose to join the government.
Speaking during a public meeting at his Tharaka Nithi home, Kindiki said the three leaders would be accommodated in President William Ruto’s administration should they abandon the opposition and support Kenya Kwanza.
“We are ready to give Hon. Peter Munya, Hon. Justin Muturi and Lenny Kivuti minister positions if they join us,” Kindiki said.
The remarks come amid intensified political realignments ahead of the 2027 General Election, with both Kenya Kwanza and the opposition seeking to consolidate support in the Mt Kenya region.
Muturi, Munya and Kivuti have recently been associated with opposition political activities alongside former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and other leaders opposed to President Ruto’s administration.
In recent weeks, Gachagua has publicly urged leaders including Munya, Muturi and Kivuti to strengthen their respective political parties before discussions on a joint presidential ticket, arguing that coalition negotiations should follow regional political consolidation.
Kindiki’s remarks signal an attempt by the ruling coalition to woo influential Mt Kenya leaders back into the government fold as competition for political support in the region intensifies ahead of the next election.
