Top ODM Leaders Accused of Engineering Division for Personal Gain

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Narok Senator Ledama Ole Kina has called for unity within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), warning that internal wrangles risk weakening the party at a critical political moment.

In a message to party supporters, the outspoken lawmaker urged members to shift focus from internal disputes to economic empowerment, arguing that divisions only serve to derail progress.

“Dear ODM family, we need to stop fighting each other over distractions and start building real wealth,” he said.

Ole Kina further cautioned that political infighting plays into the hands of powerful interests, claiming that those at the top benefit when ordinary supporters remain divided.

“The people at the top aren’t at war, they’re too busy engineering division to keep us distracted while they profit off it,” he added.

His remarks echo his previous calls for cohesion within ODM, where he has consistently warned that internal disputes undermine the party’s influence and bargaining power.

The senator’s latest statement comes against the backdrop of recurring tensions within the party, often driven by contests over leadership positions and influence, particularly between younger politicians and the party’s old guard.

ODM is currently split into two factions: one supporting the re-election bid of President William Ruto and another aligned with the opposition.

The Party’s stability has been shaky since the death of its longtime leader the late Raila Odinga.

The pro-Ruto faction is led by its current leader, Oburu Oginga, while the other is led by its embattled Secretary General Edwin Sifuna.
