NAIROBI, Kenya- Six people who were reported missing following the June 25 memorial protests have been found alive after allegedly being dumped at different locations across Nairobi, according to activists and human rights defenders.
The six were reportedly discovered in separate locations along Lang’ata Road and in the Ngong Forest area after disappearing during or shortly after the demonstrations that commemorated victims of the 2024 anti-Finance Bill protests.
Activists said the victims bore visible injuries consistent with physical assault, alleging they had been beaten while in captivity. They were subsequently taken to Nairobi Women’s Hospital, where they are receiving treatment.
The six had been the subject of an urgent search after rights groups raised alarm over their disappearance, demanding that security agencies account for their whereabouts.
Their reported recovery comes amid growing concern over allegations of enforced disappearances and abductions linked to recent protests.
As of Saturday, authorities had not publicly commented on the circumstances under which the six went missing or the allegations that they had been abducted and assaulted. No arrests have been announced.
Human rights organizations have called for an independent investigation to establish who was responsible for the alleged abductions and assaults, and to ensure those behind the incident are held accountable.
