Comedian and media personality Dr Ofweneke has publicly apologized to musician Stivo Simple Boy and his family after controversial remarks made by Andrew Kibe during an episode of his podcast sparked widespread outrage online.
The controversy erupted after content creator Andrew Kibe appeared as a guest on Ofweneke’s Lessons at 30 podcast and made remarks suggesting that men like Stivo Simple Boy should not be allowed to have children. The comments immediately triggered backlash from Kenyans online, with many accusing Kibe of attacking the rapper’s personal life.
Days after the backlash intensified and after Stivo Simple Boy directly responded defending his family, Dr Ofweneke has now stepped forward to take full responsibility for allowing the remarks to air on his platform.
In a video shared across his social media platforms, the media personality admitted that as the host of the show, he should have handled the situation differently instead of allowing the conversation to progress unchecked.
“I’m not going to divert the attention and look for somebody to blame, either my guest or my production team. I’m actually going to take the blame myself as Dr Ofweneke, as the host,” he said in the video.
The comedian acknowledged that his audience holds him to a high standard and admitted he failed to respond appropriately in a moment where he should have protected someone he considers a younger brother.
According to Ofweneke, he recognizes the responsibility that comes with the brand he has built over the years and understands that his reaction during the interview did not reflect the values people expect from him.
“I take full accountability that I should have reacted in a much better way as a big brother in terms of protecting Stivo Simple Boy as a brand and also protecting him even from a man to a man,” he added.
His statement marked a major shift in the ongoing controversy, especially because many Kenyans had previously criticized him for remaining silent while Kibe made the remarks during the podcast episode.
Addressing Stivo directly, Ofweneke revealed that he had already personally contacted the musician before posting the public apology video.
“This video was uploaded after I had done a phone call conversation to Stivo Simple Boy to personally apologize.”
During the video statement, Ofweneke spoke directly to the rapper and his family, making it clear that he deeply regrets any emotional harm caused by the statements made during the interview.
“I want to apologize to you and your family and more so to your newborn kid for any statements that were made that have actually bruised you and have actually made you feel less of a human. It was insensitive and I, as Dr Ofweneke, should have reacted in a better way,” he said.
The apology also extended beyond Stivo and his family.
Ofweneke addressed Kenyans who regularly follow Lessons at 30, admitting that the incident fell below the standard his audience expects from him as both a host and public figure.
In another major step toward correcting the situation, the comedian revealed that his production team had already started re-editing the controversial episode in order to completely remove the section containing Andrew Kibe’s remarks.
According to him, leaving the clip online could continue causing harm, something he no longer wants associated with the platform.
