ISIOLO, Kenya – Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has alleged that he was ambushed, shot at, and forcibly taken by a group of armed men he claims posed as detectives during a dramatic incident while en route to Isiolo County for his ‘presidential’ campaigns.
In a string of posts on his verified X account on Friday afternoon, Salasya said the attackers—about 15 masked men armed with AK-47 rifles—intercepted his convoy shortly after he concluded a tour in the region.
He described the ordeal as a coordinated ambush carried out by individuals claiming to be officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
“They shot at my vehicle, disarmed my bodyguards, and are now taking me to an undisclosed location,” Salasya wrote. “These people are not only armed, but highly organized. My life is in danger.”
According to the MP, the incident began when several vehicles began trailing his motorcade.
He said the group used his own lead vehicles—allegedly hijacked—to trap him, before opening fire and immobilizing his car by shooting its tyres.
His security detail, he said, was overpowered and stripped of their firearms.
“One of my security personnel managed to escape and helped me flee briefly into nearby bushes,” Salasya added. “But they caught up with us quickly. I cannot reveal what they told me for safety reasons.”
STATEMENT FROM PETER SALASYA I have just been attacked by unknown individuals claiming to be DCI officers. These people, heavily armed and moving with force, ambushed my convoy, disarmed my security team—confiscating their firearms—and pursued my vehicle. One of my security
He further stated that the group issued a chilling warning during the encounter but did not offer details.
By the time of publishing, neither the DCI nor any other government authority had responded to the MP’s claims.
Salasya has called on national security agencies and the public to urgently take note of the situation, saying he fears for his safety and is unsure of his whereabouts.
The circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear, and it is yet to be confirmed whether the individuals involved were indeed law enforcement officers or impostors.
