Ndindi Nyoro Joins People’s Party of Kenya as Party Leader

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya- Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro has announced that he has joined the People’s Party of Kenya (PPK) and will serve as the party’s leader, marking a major shift in his political career ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Nyoro, in a televised address, announced while outlining his political plans and policy proposals, signalling his departure from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the party associated with President William Ruto.

“For the avoidance of doubt, I know you all know we left government a long time ago and disassociated with the wheelbarrow party, the UDA,” Nyoro said.

He added that he expects other politicians associated with UDA to eventually leave the party.

“Vile naona, hata wenye wheelbarrow wenyewe watatoka waiwache,” he said.

Nyoro’s move comes as political formations intensify efforts to position themselves ahead of the 2027 elections.

He previously served as a prominent figure within the Kenya Kwanza administration and was chairman of the National Assembly Budget and Appropriations Committee before leaving the influential position.

Parliament records show he was replaced as committee chair in July 2025.

Nyoro unveils healthcare proposal

As part of his policy pitch, Nyoro proposed reducing the amount Kenyans contribute to the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) by 50 per cent from 2028 and redirecting the resulting funds towards healthcare.

He said the proposal could inject an additional KSh40 billion into the healthcare system.

“That extra 50 per cent reduction goes into healthcare, and that will add an extra 40 billion shillings to our healthcare system,” Nyoro said.

He said the additional funding would help Kenyans access quality healthcare without having to repeatedly pay out of pocket.

Nyoro also proposed attracting medical expertise from India to Kenya, arguing that the country should develop its healthcare system to a level that reduces the need for Kenyans to travel abroad for treatment.

“We can bring India here to Kenya instead of Kenyans going to India,” he said.

Education and development record

Nyoro also highlighted development projects in his Kiharu constituency, particularly investments in public primary schools.

He said classrooms in public primary schools in the constituency had been improved and that cabro works had been completed in 75 schools.

“Many times, people do weddings in Kiharu, wanaendanga photo session in our public primary schools,” he said.

Nyoro said his experience serving in government had given him an opportunity to assess the country’s challenges across different sectors.

“I have had an opportunity to be at a place I am serving Kenya where I had a bird’s-eye view of Kenya across all the sectors,” he said.

He added that he had studied possible solutions across the economy and other sectors and would use the experience to develop policies for the country.

“What we can do in every sector so that after next year August, Kenya becomes a much better country than even where Kibaki left.”

Nyoro’s announcement adds a new dimension to the rapidly shifting political landscape ahead of the 2027 General Election, with politicians increasingly breaking away from established parties and seeking new political platforms.
