NAIROBI, Kenya- Former Migori Governor Okoth Obado and his two co-accused will remain in custody at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison after the High Court cancelled their bond terms ahead of sentencing in the murder case of university student Sharon Otieno.
The court ordered that Obado, his former personal assistant Michael Oyamo and former Migori County Clerk Caspal Obiero be taken into custody immediately following their conviction.
The three had been out on bond during the trial, but the judge revoked their release terms pending sentencing, directing prison authorities to hold them at Kamiti Maximum Security Prison.
The court is expected to receive mitigation from the defence before delivering sentences.
Earlier on Thursday, the High Court found Obado, Oyamo and Obiero guilty over the murder of Sharon Otieno, whose body was found in Homa Bay County in September 2018. Sharon, who was seven months pregnant, had been abducted before she was killed.
The case has been one of Kenya’s longest-running and most closely watched murder trials, spanning nearly eight years from the time the three accused were first charged.
