Ol Kalou MP-Elect Sammy Waweru Helps Child Return to School After Two-Year Break

Date:

NYANDARUA, Kenya- Ol Kalou MP-elect Sammy Douglas Kamau Waweru has helped a young boy return to school after spending two years out of class due to challenges related to school fees.

Waweru said he was alerted about the plight of Stephen Wainaina, a bright and determined learner, after a concerned neighbour shared his situation on social media.

The legislator-elect on Wednesday accompanied Wainaina as he resumed his studies in Grade 2 at Nyakiambi Primary/Junior School in Mirangine Ward.

“Today, I had the privilege of seeing him return to Grade 2 at Nyakiambi Primary/Junior School in Mirangine ward after spending TWO years out of school,” Waweru said.

He emphasised that no child should be denied an education because of financial challenges, urging communities to play a role in identifying and supporting learners who have dropped out of school.

“No child should stay at home because of school fees,” he said.

Waweru called on parents, guardians, neighbours and community members to remain vigilant and help connect vulnerable children with available support.

“Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, dream, and build a better future,” he said.

The MP-elect said collective responsibility was key in ensuring that children remain in school despite economic hardships facing families.

“Together, let us ensure that no child misses an education because of lack of school fees,” he added.

The intervention comes amid continued concerns over school dropout rates linked to poverty, with education stakeholders calling for stronger community support systems to keep children in classrooms.
