Police Arrest Five Suspects, Recover Stolen Goods in Machakos Burglary

Date:

MACHAKOS, Kenya — Police have arrested five suspected burglars and recovered stolen property following a burglary incident along Kitui Road in Machakos Township, the National Police Service (NPS) has said.

In a statement on Thursday, police said officers from Machakos Police Station, while on routine patrol, acted on timely intelligence regarding an ongoing theft and swiftly moved to the scene.

The suspects were arrested earlier in the day and found in possession of items believed to have been stolen during the burglary.

Following their arrest, the suspects led officers to another location where additional property was recovered. The items include a television set, a keg pump, audio equipment, and assorted alcoholic beverages.

“All suspects were taken to Machakos Police Station and placed in custody pending processing and arraignment in court,” the police said.

The National Police Service commended both members of the public and the responding officers for the successful operation, noting that public cooperation and rapid response played a key role in the arrests and recovery.

The incident highlights the role of community policing and intelligence-led operations in combating urban crime, particularly burglary, which remains a concern in fast-growing towns.

Police urged the public to continue working closely with law enforcement by sharing information on criminal activity through the toll-free emergency numbers 999, 911, or 112, or anonymously via the #FichuaKwaDCI hotline on 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp 0709 570 000.
