NAIROBI, Kenya – Popular Mugithi musician and serving police officer Samuel Ndirangu Muchoki, widely known by his stage name Samidoh, has been declared a deserter by the National Police Service (NPS) after failing to report to work for more than 10 days.
According to a police signal seen by Y News, the officer, who is attached to the Anti-Stock Theft Unit, was expected to resume duty on 27 May.
However, his prolonged absence without official leave has triggered a nationwide directive for his immediate arrest.
“He is hereby declared a deserter,” the signal reads.
Despite being unreachable by police, Samidoh has been active on social media, with recent posts indicating he was in the United Kingdom before travelling to the United States, where his wife and children reside.
His last known physical location remains unclear, but authorities have instructed police commanders across the country to apprehend him if sighted.
Local administrators in his home county of Nyandarua have also been put on alert.
The signal adds: “If traced, arrest him.”
Samidoh, known for his hit Mugithi songs blending Kikuyu lyrics with modern storytelling, has not been a stranger to controversy.
His music shows have lately appeared to support former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, a vocal critic of the current administration.
He has also faced criticism for engaging in political activities during campaign seasons, despite being an active member of the police force—a move that violates standing service regulations.
He was notably visible during rallies for President William Ruto when he served as Deputy President under Uhuru Kenyatta.
At public gatherings, Samidoh’s performances have frequently triggered chants echoing Gachagua’s recent rhetoric—calling for Ruto to serve only one term amid economic challenges, allegations of human rights violations, and public discontent.
