NAIROBI, Kenya – Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku has criticised opposition leaders pushing the “Wantam” political agenda, urging Kenyans to assess President William Ruto’s administration based on its development record rather than political rhetoric.
Speaking during a thanksgiving service at ACK St Paul’s Ndithiri Church in Kiambeere, Mbeere South, Embu County, Ruku accused opposition leaders of overlooking development projects being implemented by the Kenya Kwanza administration.
He cited infrastructure and water projects in Embu County, including the upgrading of the Kiiritiri-Kiambeere-Karura road to bitumen standards and the Kamburu and Kiambeere bulk water projects.
According to Ruku, the initiatives demonstrate the government’s commitment to improving transport infrastructure, expanding access to essential services and enhancing livelihoods.
The CS challenged political leaders to prioritise development initiatives instead of focusing on campaigns aimed at unseating the current administration.
Ruku Warns Against Public Payroll Fraud
In a separate issue, Ruku reiterated the government’s commitment to tackling payroll fraud in the public service, warning that officials implicated in financial irregularities would face disciplinary action.
He revealed that 84 human resource managers had been sent on compulsory leave to facilitate forensic audits into suspected payroll irregularities across government departments.
Ruku said the ministry would not tolerate the misuse of public funds, adding that accountability, transparency and integrity remained central to ongoing public service reforms.
The audits are intended to examine suspected irregularities, although the CS did not provide further details on the departments involved or the amounts potentially affected.
The government has continued to emphasise the need to strengthen controls over public expenditure and ensure that public resources are used for their intended purposes.
