KAMPALA- Uganda- Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Monday evening attended a high-profile State Dinner hosted by Ugandan President Yoweri Museveni at the Speke Resort Munyonyo Convention Centre, ahead of Museveni’s presidential inauguration in Kampala.
The dinner brought together Heads of State, government representatives, former leaders, diplomats, and invited guests from across Africa and beyond in what officials described as a key diplomatic engagement ahead of the swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday.
Uhuru was among several prominent regional figures who joined Museveni for the event, which served as a pre-inauguration gathering for dignitaries attending the formal ceremony at Kololo Ceremonial Grounds.
The former Head of State arrived in Kampala earlier in the day and was received by Ugandan and Kenyan diplomatic officials before joining other invited guests for the evening function.
The State Dinner was also attended by several African leaders including Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir, and other regional representatives, reflecting Uganda’s continued diplomatic engagement within the East African and broader continental framework.
The gathering at Speke Resort Munyonyo formed part of a series of official events leading up to Museveni’s inauguration, which is expected to draw dozens of heads of state and government officials to Kampala.
Security was heightened across the capital as Uganda prepared for the high-profile ceremony, with authorities coordinating logistics for visiting delegations and protocol arrangements for the swearing-in event.
Museveni, who has been in power since 1986, is set to begin another five-year term following his victory in the January 2026 general election.
The inauguration is expected to reaffirm Uganda’s diplomatic ties with regional partners, particularly within the East African Community, where Kenya and Uganda continue to maintain strong political and economic cooperation.
