NPS to Discipline Officer Recorded Harassing Female Traffic Cop in Nakuru

Date:

The National Police Service (NPS) has condemned the harassment of a female traffic officer in Nakuru County following the circulation of a viral video showing the officer being verbally abused while on duty.

In a press statement issued by the Office of the Inspector General on Friday, May 8, police said their attention had been drawn to a video clip circulating on social media that depicts the officer being harassed as she performed her duties.

According to preliminary reports, the incident occurred on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, within Nakuru County.

The motorist seen in the video subjecting the officer to verbal abuse, intimidation and actions undermining her lawful authority has since been identified as a police officer stationed in the same county.

The police service strongly denounced the incident, stating that such conduct goes against the core values of the service.

“The National Police Service condemns this behaviour in the strongest possible terms. Such conduct is not only unlawful but also directly contradicts the core values of professionalism, discipline, respect and integrity for which the NPS stands,” the statement read.

The service emphasized that no officer should face harassment while performing their duties, regardless of gender or rank.

“No officer, regardless of gender or rank, should be subjected to harassment while serving the public and upholding the law,” the statement added.

NPS further clarified that the conduct displayed by the male officer does not reflect the standards or ethos of the police service.

“The actions displayed by the male officer do not, in any way, represent the ethos, training or code of conduct of the National Police Service. We are a service built on honour, courage and mutual respect — both among our members and towards the public we serve,” the statement noted.

Authorities confirmed that disciplinary and corrective measures have already been initiated against the officer involved.

At the same time, the police service commended the female officer for maintaining composure despite the confrontation.

“We further commend the female officer for her composure, bravery and commitment to duty despite the provocation. Her conduct exemplifies the professional standards expected of every police officer in Kenya,” NPS stated.
