His death was confirmed on Sunday by Senate Speaker Amason Kingi, who described him as a selfless leader committed to the welfare of his people.

President William Ruto led the nation in mourning Cheptumo, hailing him as a “progressive leader dedicated to public service.”

The President acknowledged the senator’s relentless efforts to transform Baringo County and improve the lives of his constituents.

“He was vocal, hardworking, and a tireless champion for the transformation of Baringo,” Ruto said, adding that his thoughts and prayers were with Cheptumo’s family, friends, and supporters.

Cheptumo, a staunch ally of the President, had a long political career, serving as Baringo North MP before clinching the Senate seat in 2022 under the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), defeating former Senator Gideon Moi.
