NAIROBI, Kenya — The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has launched investigations into an armed robbery at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Nairobi’s Spring Valley area, where four suspects reportedly robbed customers before escaping on motorcycles.
In a statement issued on Sunday, the DCI said the robbery occurred at a restaurant in Westlands Sub-County and involved four unidentified suspects riding on two motorcycles.
According to investigators, the assailants stormed the restaurant, robbed customers of their valuables, fired two rounds into the air, and fled towards the Parklands area.
Police recovered a spent 9mm cartridge at the scene, which has since been submitted for forensic examination.
Investigations Underway
The DCI said detectives have already recorded statements from several victims, with additional complainants and witnesses expected to assist investigators as the probe continues.
Officers from the Imaging and Acoustic Section are analysing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage from the area to establish the suspects’ movements before and after the incident.
Crime Scene Investigators have also collected and submitted key exhibits recovered from the scene for forensic analysis.
“The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has commenced investigations into a robbery with violence incident that occurred yesterday at a restaurant along General Mathenge Road in Westlands Sub-County, Nairobi County,” the agency said.
Intelligence-Led Operation
The DCI said the investigation will combine intelligence gathering and forensic analysis to identify and apprehend those responsible.
“Intelligence and forensics-led investigations are ongoing, with efforts focused on identifying, apprehending, and arraigning the suspects before the courts,” the statement added.
The agency reiterated its commitment to combating violent crime and ensuring public safety.
“The DCI wishes to assure the public of its unwavering commitment to safeguarding the safety and security of all persons within the Republic and to ensuring that those responsible for criminal acts are held accountable and brought to justice.”
Appeal for Information
The DCI has appealed to members of the public with information that could assist the investigation to report it to DCI Gigiri, the nearest police station, or through the toll-free Fichua Kwa DCI hotline 0800 722 203 or WhatsApp number 0709 570 000.
No injuries were reported in the incident, and police have not yet announced any arrests as investigations continue.
