Google has taken another major step in the artificial intelligence race after launching Personal Intelligence inside the Gemini app, a feature designed to make the AI assistant smarter, more contextual, and deeply personalized.
The new tool allows Gemini to connect with selected Google services such as Gmail, Google Photos, Google Drive, Search, and YouTube to generate responses based on a user’s own digital ecosystem.
Rather than offering only generic answers, Gemini can now understand personal context and retrieve useful information from connected apps.
The feature is currently rolling out in beta for Gemini Advanced users, including subscribers on the Pro and Ultra tiers, across web, Android, and iOS, primarily in the United States.
Personal Intelligence is an optional system that transforms Gemini from a standard chatbot into a more capable personal assistant.
Instead of requiring users to manually search through emails, cloud storage, photo libraries, or browsing history, Gemini can retrieve relevant information across connected services and use it to answer requests faster and more accurately.
For example, users can ask Gemini:
- What time is my next flight?
- Show me photos from my last beach trip
- Summarize the document my boss sent last week
- What restaurants did I search for recently?
- Find the recipe video I watched on YouTube
Gemini can then identify the right source and respond without users needing to specify where the information is stored.
The feature is entirely opt-in, meaning it is disabled by default. Users must choose to activate Personal Intelligence and connect their Google services individually.
Once enabled, Gemini can access approved apps and use the available information to create more helpful answers.
Google says Gemini is designed to determine which connected source is most relevant to a request, reducing the need for users to explain details or repeat context.
For instance:
If a user asks about upcoming travel plans, Gemini may pull flight confirmations from Gmail.
If they ask for vacation memories, it may search Google Photos.
If they need an old presentation, it could check Google Drive.
This creates a smoother and more natural assistant experience.
At launch, Personal Intelligence supports major Google products, including Gmail, Google Photos, Google Drive, Google Search, and YouTube
Gemini may identify previously watched content or suggest related videos based on viewing habits.
By combining these sources, Gemini becomes more useful than a standalone chatbot.
Google has a major advantage because billions of people already use Gmail, Search, Photos, Maps, and Drive. By linking Gemini to this ecosystem, the company can offer a highly personalized AI experience that competitors may struggle to match.
Instead of building new habits, Google is improving tools users already rely on.
Because Personal Intelligence relies on private data, privacy concerns are inevitable. Google says the feature includes multiple control layers.
Users can choose which apps to connect, disconnect services at any time, review how their information is used, delete Gemini activity history, and manage privacy settings within their Google account
The company emphasizes that Personal Intelligence is optional and built around transparency.
At present, Personal Intelligence is rolling out as a beta feature for Gemini Advanced subscribers.
That means free Gemini users may not immediately access it. Availability currently focuses on web users, Android users, iPhone and iPad users
The first rollout is concentrated in the United States, with wider expansion expected later.
