Veteran radio presenter Tina Ogal has officially joined the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and declared her intention to contest for the Embakasi East parliamentary seat in the 2027 General Election.
Her entry into politics sets up what could become one of Nairobi’s most closely watched constituency races, especially with current MP Babu Owino widely linked to a possible bid for the Nairobi governor seat.
Ogal was formally unveiled on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, during an ODM event led by party Secretary General Catherine Omanyo. The announcement marked her official transition from the media world into elective politics after years of public service through broadcasting.
Tina Ogal is a familiar name to many Kenyans, particularly listeners of Radio Citizen, where she built a successful career spanning more than two decades.
She has been one of the most recognizable voices in Kenyan radio and has earned respect across the media industry for her consistency, professionalism, and connection with audiences.
Beyond presenting, Ogal also rose through management ranks and served as Acting Head of Radio at Royal Media Services (RMS), one of Kenya’s largest media houses.
Embakasi East remains one of Nairobi’s most politically influential constituencies. The area has a large and diverse population, with neighborhoods such as Umoja Three, Tassia, and parts of Utawala forming key voting blocs.
The constituency has long been politically active and often attracts national attention because of its strategic location and youthful electorate.
Current MP Babu Owino has held the seat with a strong support base and remains one of the country’s most visible legislators. However, recent political signals suggest he may be eyeing a run for Nairobi governor in 2027.
By joining ODM, Ogal enters the race under one of Kenya’s most established political parties.
ODM has historically maintained strong support in Nairobi and continues to be a significant player in urban constituencies.
