NAIROBI, Kenya — Kenya Airways has cancelled its scheduled flight from New York to Nairobi after severe weather disrupted operations at John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK), affecting departures and arrivals.

In a customer advisory issued on July 19, the national carrier confirmed that Flight KQ003, which had been scheduled to depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) for Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) on July 18, 2026, was unable to operate as planned.

The airline attributed the cancellation to adverse weather conditions that significantly disrupted airport operations in New York.

“Due to severe weather conditions being experienced in New York, airport operations were significantly disrupted,” Kenya Airways said in a statement.

Flight to resume once conditions improve

Kenya Airways said the affected flight will only depart after weather conditions improve and all operational and regulatory requirements have been met.

According to the airline, the flight’s resumption will depend on:

  • Improvement in weather conditions.
  • Compliance with all safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Clearance from air traffic control authorities.

The carrier emphasized that passenger safety remains its highest priority.

Passengers advised to monitor updates

The airline urged affected passengers to monitor official Kenya Airways communication channels for updates regarding the rescheduled departure.

Travellers are also encouraged to contact the airline’s customer service team or their respective travel agents for assistance with rebooking and other travel arrangements.

Weather-related disruptions are common at major international airports during periods of severe storms, with air traffic controllers often delaying or cancelling flights to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.

Kenya Airways has not yet announced a revised departure time for Flight KQ003.

Further updates are expected once weather conditions improve and airport operations at JFK return to normal.
