KIAMBU, Kenya — Police in Kiambu County have launched a manhunt for a suspect accused of killing two fellow labourers and seriously injuring another during an attack at a construction site in Mugumo Drive Estate, Kiambu Town.
The suspect, identified as Moses Kigera, is said to have fled the scene after the incident and remains at large.
Police Launch Manhunt
According to Kiambu East Sub-County Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) head Stephen Mutua, police were alerted by one of the workers who escaped the attack unharmed.
Responding officers found the bodies of two victims at the construction site alongside the suspected murder weapons, which have been recovered as exhibits.
Investigators have launched an intensive search for the suspect as inquiries into the killings continue.
Preliminary Probe Points to Workplace Dispute
While the motive has not been conclusively established, Kiambu East Police Commander Elema Hassan said preliminary investigations suggest the suspect had recently been dismissed from his position and replaced by one of the deceased.
The suspect and one of the victims had reportedly been working as caretakers at the ongoing construction site before the change in employment.
Police are investigating whether the dismissal may have contributed to the attack.
One Survivor Undergoing Treatment
Besides the two fatalities, another labourer sustained serious injuries during the incident.
The injured worker was rushed to Kiambu Level 5 Hospital, where he is receiving treatment.
Meanwhile, the bodies of the deceased have been moved to the Kiambu Level 5 Hospital Mortuary pending post-mortem examinations.
Police said efforts are also underway to notify the victims’ next of kin.
Authorities have appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the suspect to report to the nearest police station as investigations continue.
