BUNGOMA, Kenya — Interior and National Administration Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has pledged to intensify the government’s crackdown on political goons and other criminal elements, saying security agencies will use all lawful means to safeguard Kenyans and their property.

Speaking during a church service at AIC Kamuneru in Mt. Elgon, Bungoma County, on Sunday, Murkomen reaffirmed the government’s commitment to restoring law and order amid growing concerns over politically instigated violence and criminal gangs.

“I promise you, just pray for me, I’ll deal with those people one by one,” Murkomen told congregants.

“We will work together to make sure this country is safe,” he added.

The Cabinet Secretary said the government remains determined to protect lives, property, and public order, stressing that security agencies would continue pursuing individuals involved in violence and other forms of criminal activity within the confines of the law.

Murkomen’s remarks come at a time when the government has heightened its campaign against organised criminal groups and individuals accused of infiltrating public demonstrations to engage in looting, vandalism, and violence.

The Interior Ministry has repeatedly maintained that while peaceful demonstrations are protected under the Constitution, criminal acts committed under the guise of protests will attract firm legal action.

During the church service, Murkomen also lauded security officers in Mt. Elgon for their efforts in combating drug and substance abuse, describing the fight against narcotics as critical to improving security and protecting young people from crime.

He urged local administrators and law enforcement agencies to strengthen operations targeting illicit drugs while also intensifying efforts to curb cases of defilement and improve service delivery to residents.

The Cabinet Secretary said addressing insecurity requires close collaboration between the government, security agencies, religious institutions, and local communities.

Murkomen was accompanied by Mining Principal Secretary Harry Kimtai, Bungoma Deputy Governor Pastor Janepher Mbatiany, Mt. Elgon MP Fred Kapondi, Kimilili MP Didmus Barasa, Bungoma Senator Consolata Wakwabubi, National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) Board Chairperson Bishop Dr. Stephen Mairori, NACADA Chief Executive Officer Dr. Anthony Omerikwa, Members of the County Assembly, and other local leaders.
