Family of Abdul Aziz Duba, alias Zizo, demands his release or arraignment in court, alleging he was abducted by armed men identifying themselves as police officers.

NAIROBI, Kenya — The family of Abdul Aziz Duba Molu, popularly known as Zizo, is demanding answers over his disappearance, alleging that he was abducted by armed men identifying themselves as police officers and has remained missing for six days.

The alleged disappearance has fuelled protests in Kiamaiko, Huruma Estate, with residents and relatives calling on the government to either release him immediately or present him before a court of law if he is being held over any offence.

According to the family, Abdul Aziz left home last Tuesday to supervise fencing works on a newly acquired parcel of land in Juja, Kiambu County. However, he never returned.

His colleagues, who were with him at the time, later informed the family that armed men travelling in two vehicles intercepted them before taking him away.

“I sell meat here in Kiamaiko. They were intercepted by two vehicles. The men were armed with AK-47 rifles. They asked, ‘Who is Badi?’ and then they took him away,” said his brother, Ramadhan Ndumba Mulu.

The family says repeated efforts to establish his whereabouts have yielded no results.

“Today is the sixth day. He has not been taken to court, and we don’t know where he is. The government should tell us where he is,” Ndumba said.

Relatives insist that if Abdul Aziz is suspected of committing any offence, authorities should follow due process by presenting him before a court instead of allegedly detaining him incommunicado.

“He is a father. Government, stop abductions. Tell us where he is,” said Kiamaiko resident Mohamed Isman.

His disappearance has become the focal point of demonstrations in Kiamaiko, where residents have staged protests demanding his release.

The protests have at times turned violent, with clashes reported between demonstrators and police. At least one person was killed during the confrontations, further escalating tensions in the area.

Residents warned that demonstrations would resume if no information is provided about Abdul Aziz’s whereabouts.

“We are giving the government 24 hours. If they do not release him, we will return to the streets and continue demonstrating until he is found. We are ready to die for him if that is what it takes,” said resident Rashid Juma.

The case comes amid growing concern from human rights organisations and civil society groups over alleged enforced disappearances following the June 25 demonstrations commemorating the 2024 Gen Z protests.

The National Police Service has previously urged families of missing persons to formally report such cases and has maintained that allegations of enforced disappearances should be investigated through the appropriate legal channels.
