Police Announces Nairobi Traffic Disruptions Ahead of African Forward Summit

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — The National Police Service has announced temporary traffic disruptions on major roads in Nairobi ahead of the upcoming African Forward Summit 2026 scheduled for May 10 to May 12.

In a public notice issued Saturday, police said the traffic changes are intended to facilitate smooth movement and enhance security during the high-level summit.

According to the notice, motorists should expect disruptions along key roads, including Mombasa Road, Langata Road, Thika Road, Limuru Road, Kiambu Road, and sections within the Nairobi Central Business District.

“To ensure public safety and the smooth management of the African Forward Summit 2026, scheduled to take place from 10th to 12th May 2026 in Nairobi, the National Police Service hereby notifies the public of temporary traffic disruption,” the statement said.

The police further announced that additional restrictions will take effect from midnight on Monday, May 11, with several roads around the city centre set to be fully closed.

The roads to be affected include City Hall Way, Parliament Road, Harambee Avenue, and Taifa Road.

Police said the roads will remain closed to all traffic except vehicles authorised to access the summit venue at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre.

The closures are expected to affect movement around the city centre and surrounding areas as delegates and officials attend the summit.

Motorists have been advised to plan their journeys early, use alternative routes, and cooperate with officers deployed along affected roads.

“All motorists are urged to be patient, strictly adhere to traffic rules and regulations, and follow the guidance of officers stationed along the affected routes,” the notice stated.

The National Police Service also warned that strict action would be taken against motorists found violating traffic regulations during the period of the summit.

The African Forward Summit 2026 is expected to bring together regional leaders, policymakers, investors, and technology stakeholders to discuss Africa’s digital transformation, artificial intelligence, and infrastructure development.
