NAKURU, Kenya — Police in Nakuru County have arrested a suspect and recovered 990 litres of ethanol, 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition, and assorted firearm-related items during an intelligence-led operation targeting the illegal manufacture of second-generation alcohol.
According to the National Police Service (NPS), the operation was conducted in Rongai following a tip-off that led officers to a homestead in Cottage Estate, Kiamunyi, where an illicit alcohol production operation was allegedly being run.
Ethanol Hidden in Septic Tank
During the raid, officers discovered 990 litres of ethanol concealed inside a septic tank within the compound, in what investigators believe was an attempt to avoid detection.
Police said the ethanol was suspected to have been intended for the manufacture of illicit second-generation alcoholic beverages.
Ammunition and Firearm Accessories Recovered
A search of the suspect’s residence also led to the recovery of:
- A Ceska pistol magazine loaded with 29 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
- A bulletproof vest.
- A firearm cleaning kit.
- Two pistol holsters.
- Assorted packaging materials suspected to have been used in producing counterfeit alcoholic drinks, including branded stickers, bottles, and bottle tops.
Authorities did not indicate whether a firearm was recovered during the operation.
Suspect in Custody
Police identified the suspect as Geoffrey Muriithi Kerinya, who was arrested at the scene and taken into custody.
The National Police Service said the suspect is undergoing processing pending arraignment in court, while all recovered items have been retained as exhibits for ongoing investigations.
The operation forms part of continued efforts by law enforcement agencies to combat the manufacture and distribution of illicit alcohol and to curb the illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.
