NAIROBI, Kenya — The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) and the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) have agreed to deepen political cooperation following a high-level consultative meeting between senior party organs on April 23, 2026.
The meeting brought together the United Democratic Alliance Steering Committee and the Orange Democratic Movement Central Management Committee in what both sides described as a structured dialogue aimed at strengthening collaboration on national priorities.
According to a joint statement, the discussions focused on identifying areas of mutual interest and building consensus on key governance and development issues.
The parties further mandated their respective chairpersons to maintain regular and structured consultations across party organs to sustain engagement.
A central outcome of the meeting was the agreement to pursue the groundwork for what was described as a “formal coalition of equals” between ODM and UDA, signalling a potential shift in Kenya’s political alignment ahead of future governance arrangements.
To support this process, the two parties also agreed to establish a Broad-Based Management Committee. The proposed body will include party leaders, selected Cabinet Secretaries, as well as the Majority and Minority Leaders in Parliament.
The committee will be tasked with coordinating and aligning both legislative and executive agendas, with the aim of improving coherence in government operations, enhancing efficiency, and strengthening service delivery to citizens.
Both parties emphasized their shared commitment to constructive political dialogue, national unity, and inclusive governance, framing the engagement as part of a broader effort to stabilise and streamline decision-making within government structures.
President William Ruto, who also serves as UDA party leader, and Senator Oburu Oginga, ODM party leader, reaffirmed the importance of sustained cooperation in advancing national development goals.
The announcement marks one of the most formalized engagements between the two political formations in recent months, and is expected to reshape parliamentary dynamics and executive-legislative coordination if fully implemented.
