Interior PS Omollo Denies Links to Attack on Senator Osotsi in Kisumu

Date:

NAIROBI, Kenya — Interior Principal Secretary Raymond Omollo has denied allegations linking him to the violent attack on Vihiga Senator Godfrey Osotsi, dismissing the claims as unfounded and urging that due process be followed through formal police channels.

Speaking in a televised interview, Omollo rejected assertions that he had any involvement in the assault, saying there was no basis for the accusations and that investigations should be left to law enforcement agencies.

“I don’t think I would want to respond to Osotsi… we are a constitutional country with processes,” he said, adding that any criminal allegations should be formally reported to police for investigation.

He maintained that the law provides clear procedures for handling such claims and urged complainants to present evidence through official channels rather than making public accusations.

“If there is any evidence, then you need to involve the police… I am not sure if anything like that has happened,” he added.

Omollo also dismissed suggestions of political motives behind the allegations, describing them as speculative and lacking logic.

“As it is, I would consider it street talk,” he said, questioning what possible interest he would have in targeting the senator.

The remarks come amid ongoing investigations into a violent incident involving Senator Osotsi in Kisumu, where he was reportedly attacked by a group of armed youths in an incident that has sparked political debate.

The senator sustained injuries and was initially treated at a hospital in Kisumu before being airlifted to Nairobi for specialised medical care.

According to witness accounts, the attackers confronted Osotsi in public before assaulting him in what authorities have described as a coordinated attack.

The incident occurred in April 2026 after the senator visited a barbershop and later stopped at a local restaurant in Kisumu.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations has since launched investigations into the assault and arrested three suspects who have already been arraigned in court.

Political leaders in the region have called for calm as pressure mounts on security agencies to establish the motive and identify all those involved.

Senator Osotsi has previously suggested that the attack may have been politically motivated, further heightening tensions around the case.

Authorities say investigations are ongoing as they seek to establish the full circumstances surrounding the incident.
